Buying second-hand. Built to keep going.

Do you want to buy a second-hand trailer that you can still rely on for years to come? Then it is wise to look beyond the purchase price alone. A good second-hand trailer has a strong construction, has been properly maintained and suits the work you want to use it for.

Hapert Trailers has been developing and building trailers for private and professional use since 1966. Thanks to their robust construction and durable material choices, our trailers can, depending on use and maintenance, continue to perform for many years after their first owner.

Hapert does not sell second-hand trailers directly. However, through our extensive dealer network, you can find used Hapert trailers, professional advice, maintenance and repairs.

Looking for a second-hand Hapert?

Various Hapert dealers sell used trailers. The available range differs per dealer and changes regularly.

Why buy a second-hand Hapert trailer?

A trailer is an investment that you often use for many years. When you buy a second-hand trailer, you want to be sure that the most important parts are still in good condition.

At Hapert, quality starts with the construction.

Our trailers are developed for intensive use. We pay attention to the strength of the chassis, the materials used and the practical features that make a difference in daily work.

A fully welded chassis
The chassis is the foundation of your trailer. Hapert’s fully welded construction has been developed to withstand long-term load during daily use.

Long-term protection

The hot-dip galvanised chassis offers protection against corrosion. This is important for trailers that are exposed to weather conditions, dirt and moisture for many years.

Maintenance and support

Good maintenance contributes to the service life of your trailer. Our dealer network helps you inspect, maintain and, where necessary, repair your used Hapert.

Especially when buying a second-hand trailer, it is important to know how the vehicle has been used. A strong foundation provides a good starting point, but the actual technical condition and maintenance history remain decisive.

About us – Hapert Trailers

Buying a second-hand trailer from a Hapert dealer

Looking for a used Hapert trailer? Then you do not have to rely only on private advertisements.

Our extensive dealer network consists of trailer specialists who can advise you on the different models, dimensions and weight classes. Various dealers also have second-hand Hapert trailers in their range.

The range may include used open box trailers, platform trailers, tippers, transporters and enclosed trailers.

A major advantage of a specialised dealer is that you can go there not only for the purchase. You can also contact them for maintenance, repairs and advice about parts. Ask the dealer which technical inspection has been carried out and which warranty conditions may apply to the used trailer being offered.

What should you look out for when buying a second-hand trailer?

Not every used trailer has the same history. One trailer may have been used intensively for years, while another may only have been used occasionally.

That is why it is wise to inspect a second-hand trailer properly before buying it. Even if the outside looks neat, important parts may show wear or damage.

Use this buying checklist to start your search better prepared. The inspection points mentioned correspond to the parts that are also checked during professional trailer maintenance.

Buying checklist for a second-hand trailer

  • Check for damage, deformation, cracks and serious corrosion. If you have any doubts about the construction, have it assessed by a specialist.

  • Tyres and wheels

Check the tyres for wear, cracks and age. Also have the wheel bearings and suspension inspected.

  • Brakes and coupling

Check the condition of the coupling, overrun brake, handbrake and breakaway cable, if fitted. Have the operation tested by a specialist.

  • Floor and body

Check the load floor for damage, soft spots and wear. Also inspect the side panels, hinges and locks.

  • Lighting and wiring

Check all lighting and inspect the plug, cables and connections for damage and corrosion.

  • Maintenance history

Ask about previous maintenance, repairs and any damage. Invoices and maintenance records can help with this.

  • Registration and chassis number

Check whether the chassis number matches the available documents. For a trailer that requires its own registration, also check the details with the RDW.

  • Additional functions

For tippers, check the hydraulics. For transporters, check the loading ramps, fittings and any winch, among other things.

  • Suitability

Check the permitted weight, unladen weight, available payload and the combination with your car and driving licence.

If in doubt, have a pre-purchase inspection carried out. This is especially wise if you are buying an older trailer, if there is no maintenance history or if you want to use the trailer intensively.

Which second-hand Hapert trailer suits you?

Depending on your work, different types of second-hand Hapert trailers may be suitable.

Second-hand open box trailer

Are you looking for a practical trailer for building materials, garden waste or other goods? Then a used Hapert Azure open box trailer may suit your work well.

When buying, pay particular attention to the floor, side panels and chassis.

Second-hand platform trailer

A platform trailer is suitable for a wide range of transport jobs. The Hapert Azure H is designed for users who value loading space and a practical loading height.

Check the load floor, lashing points and any additional accessories.

Second-hand tipper

A used Hapert Cobalt is interesting for transporting and unloading sand, soil, building materials and other loose loads.

Pay extra attention to the hydraulics, cylinder, hinge points and chassis.

Second-hand machine transporter

Do you need to transport machines or heavy equipment? Then look at used Hapert Indigo transporters.

Check the loading facilities, tyres, brakes and lashing points, among other things.

Second-hand enclosed trailer

With a used Hapert Sapphire, you can transport goods in an enclosed loading space.

Check the panels, doors, seals, load floor and any signs of moisture problems.

These models are examples of the different types of Hapert trailers. The current second-hand range and available versions differ per dealer.

What does a second-hand trailer cost?

The price of a second-hand trailer depends on the brand, model, year of manufacture, payload, technical condition and any additional options.

A used trailer can have an attractive price, but a low purchase price does not automatically mean you are better off.

If a second-hand trailer immediately needs maintenance or replacement parts, the total costs can increase considerably.

Therefore, do not only compare the purchase price, but also include expected maintenance costs and possible repairs.

A well-maintained Hapert with a solid construction can be an interesting choice for someone looking for a used trailer. Always have the actual condition assessed before deciding to buy.

A second-hand trailer or would a new one be better?

You may start your search with a second-hand trailer. But while comparing, you may discover that the price difference compared with a new trailer is smaller than expected.

In that case, it is wise to look into both options.

Where can I buy a second-hand Hapert trailer?

Second-hand Hapert trailers are offered by private sellers and trailer specialists, including various official Hapert dealers. Hapert does not sell second-hand trailers directly. You can use the dealer locator to find a dealer near you.

Hapert builds trailers with a fully welded and hot-dip galvanised chassis. This provides a strong foundation for long-term use. However, whether a specific second-hand model is reliable depends on its technical condition, previous use and maintenance history.

Always check the chassis, floor, tyres, brakes, coupling, lighting and maintenance history. Also check the available documents and chassis number. If in doubt, have the trailer inspected by a specialist.

The price depends on the type of trailer, age, dimensions, payload, condition and options present. View the current used trailer range at various dealers and take possible maintenance costs into account.

An existing Hapert warranty can be registered by the first owner and cannot be transferred at a later date.

That depends on your budget, use and wishes. A well-maintained second-hand trailer can be financially attractive. With a new trailer, you can choose the desired version and options yourself and may be eligible for extended manufacturer’s and chassis warranty.

That depends on the quality of the construction, the conditions of use and the maintenance. A used trailer with a well-maintained chassis and technically sound parts can continue to be used for many years. There is no fixed remaining service life for every second-hand trailer.

You can go to an official Hapert dealer for advice, maintenance and repairs. Via the Hapert Trailers dealer locator, you can find a specialist near you.

In the Netherlands, a trailer with a permitted maximum mass of more than 750 kg has its own registration plate. When it is sold, this registration must be transferred. A trailer up to and including 750 kg does not have its own registration plate and uses a white registration plate from the towing vehicle.
