Hapert Trailers supports Tour du ALS
The progressive muscle disease ALS is one of the most serious disorders of the nervous system.
No patient survives the diagnosis. As long as there is no medicine, ALS patients are deprived of any future perspective. Finding a medicine for ALS must therefore be a priority. That requires money, a lot of money. On Thursday 8 June 2023, many hundreds of cyclists, runners and walkers will climb Mont Ventoux in France during the 11th edition of Tour du ALS to help defeat ALS.
Hapert Trailers supports Tour du ALS. We do this not only through a financial donation, but also because Ad Saris is taking part in this edition with Team Harrie. This team was founded in honour of Harrie Coppens. Harrie Coppens, born in 1948, has cycled around 500,000 kilometres through 38 countries over the past 35 years. From Japan to the Himalayas in Nepal, Harrie has cycled everywhere. Unfortunately, an active and sporty lifestyle does not mean you cannot get ALS.
Since Harrie was diagnosed with ALS, his condition has deteriorated quickly, meaning he can hardly cycle anymore. Because Harrie has always been active in the cycling world and is a member of two cycling clubs, his story has become widely known. Team Harrie now has 12 team members, including our own Ad Saris.
Team Harrie has already raised more than EUR 20,000. With this money, Stichting ALS Nederland funds scientific research into the cause and treatment of ALS and related diseases PSMA and PLS. Part of the proceeds also goes towards improving the quality of care for patients and their loved ones.
