All braked trailers in a row:
A braked trailer is a trailer with a braking system on one axle. Often this braking system consists of a combination of braked wheels and an overrun braking system. So a braked trailer has its own ability to brake when the towing car also brakes.

Difference between a braked and unbraked trailer
A distinction is made between braked and unbraked trailers. An unbraked trailer is a trailer that does not have its own braking system. This means that the trailer must be braked by the vehicle pulling the trailer.
Maximum towing weight
The maximum towing weight of an unbraked trailer is lower than that of a braked trailer. If you have an unbraked trailer, your car may not tow more than 750 kg (load weight + trailer weight).
Unbraked trailer or braked trailer?
Unbraked trailers do not need to be registered, do not require insurance and do not require annual inspections. You only need a license plate on the trailer that is the same as the license plate of your own car.
However, braked trailers with an authorized maximum mass higher than 750 kg must be registered and also receive their own license plates.
Driving License
Anyone with a B license may tow an unbraked trailer. In fact, you may tow a trailer with a total weight of up to 750 kg with driving license B.
To drive a braked trailer, you often need driving license BE. Our trailers have a load capacity of up to 3500 kg. So in those cases, a driver’s license BE is necessary.
